Bringing Better Asthma Care to People in their Local Community

Show-Me ECHO’s Asthma ECHO offers 3 workforce development programs to improve asthma care across Missouri.

Each program uniquely prepares individuals for specific focus areas of asthma care intervention, but ultimately works as a comprehensive model.

In other words, each development program prepares and educates healthcare professionals and community members to implement expert asthma care for their specific patients and practice. Asthma 1, Asthma 2, and Asthma 3 build consecutively upon on another to establish knowledge foundations, develop skillsets, and increase ability to provide exceptional asthma care.

We recommend that most participants begin with Asthma 1 – Essentials. This ECHO is an entry-level program that defines best practices and addresses the 4 components of national asthma guidelines. Individuals who complete the Asthma 1 program are invited to participate in the Asthma 2 – QI/MOC program. The Asthma 2 ECHO is intended for professionals who have completed the Asthma 1 prerequisite and are interested in providing high- quality asthma care and education. Finally, the Asthma 3 ECHO brings together clinic and community health professional to combine the skills and knowledge gained in previous Asthma ECHO tracks to support coordinated services for better health outcomes and collective impact.

Each Asthma ECHO program functions in a cohort model which offers a more involved learning experience.

When professionals commit to consistent engagement, healthcare professionals, and patients, are more likely to see positive health outcomes.

This collaborative environment also allows cased-based learning to occur across each development program. Each case presented by participants is used to develop skills and expertise in all Asthma ECHO programs. This methodology allows for all individuals to learn from one another while also gaining a deeper understanding of Asthma care in other Missouri communities.
